MICrONS (Machine Learning from Cortical Neural Networks)

In this large-scale IARPA moon-shot Apollo project of the Brain, in collaboration with Johns Hopkins, Harvard, MIT, Cold Spring Harbor and Columbia University, we seek to characterize the neural codes, anatomical circuits and computational rules by which intricate networks of nerves cells in the visual cortex orchestrate their activity to learn and to make sense of the world. We will develop computational neural models to explore computational and coding rules, and to develop machine learning algorithms for unsupervised learning and probabilistic inference in hierarchical neural networks with recurrent interaction.
